Our Story

Hi! I’m Leigh, this is my third baby-  MOOV baby.

I wanted to tell you about MOOV baby and why it all started. The reason really was anxiety.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had a small baby, I was living far from home in a foreign country, without extended family or familiar friends, and I had no idea what I was doing. I was so anxious and constantly running on adrenalin trying to “protect” this little new-born babe.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then I met Bene. She had a little girl a few months older than my son, and when they came to visit her bub crawled around our apartment. When she started crawling under our dining table I went to move her away, and Bene said matter-of-factly “she’s fine, she needs to learn” (she was by the way) and she told me that day about RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers - an approach to caring for babies).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was captivated. I read up. It made so much sense to me - particularly the focus on allowing natural gross motor development. No walkers, jumpers or other contraptions that put babies in positions they couldn't get into by themselves. No, this was about giving the space and time for babies to do it themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was such a release for me, to not feel completely responsible for everything my son did - to realise that he was actually capable of so much. ⠀⠀

I read more about it, and realised that my son (and I!) would really benefit from the Pikler triangle. But what I wanted wasn’t available easily. That’s when my dad stepped in (having a business that had been working with wood for over 100 years was pretty handy!).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The triangle was a game changer for us.

I am still an anxious person when it comes to my kids (I’m working on it!) but I have never looked back when it comes to my children's physical capabilities and my faith in them knowing their own limits and abilities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because at the end of the day movement is natural and they don’t need us to teach them what they already know.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you are mum or dad to a little person who needs a bit of extra help then the Pikler is perfect too. It really is made for little people.
